Like many of you, I was reliant on benefits and felt as if the future was bleak, a downward spiral into debt and day time TV. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with day time TV, I enjoy Jeremy Kyle, This Morning and Loose Women, more so when I’m taking a break from my work. Now I can choose if I want to spend the day working or relaxing, I have given myself choice once again.

Knowing that I have been in the same position and have created a business from just £35 shows you that it can be done. That you do not need a business degree or rich ‘Uncle’ to start a business, I have neither, what you do need is a desire to and the enthusiasm to start changing your future.
Why did I start Mystic Charms?
You may think that I am going to say it was an overwhelming urge to convert people to a different way of thinking. In some ways it is, that thinking is ‘if you put your mind to it, you can do it’. It actually was because my doctors told me they would never sign me fit to return back to work and the future was so bleak. That spurred me to look at different ways to work and it was the internet that gave me the opportunity to expand my ideas.
My criteria was to work when I was fit and not have to worry if I could not work if my health dictated it – Mystic Charms allows me to work a few hours a day or when my health is bad a few minutes a day.
The product line had to be something small enough to require little packing and be cheap to post – Most items simply pop into a small jiffy bag without any other packing.
It also had to be a product line that people are interested in – No matter what your beliefs are our product line certainly does get people talking!
And it had to reach a wide audience – Offering sellers a drop shipping service allowed Mystic Charms to reach an even wider audience than I had ever expected.
What have been my best highlights so far?
There have been so many! I won’t lie and say it was an easy journey. I knew it would take time before I would finally be able to earn enough to come off benefits so I set my self targets, rather than focussing on one big one I focussed on milestones.
My first highlight was the day after I launched Mystic Charms when three people had already joined and started selling.
Then there are the two prestigious business start-up awards from Barclays Trading Place Awards that I won.
Being able to stop receiving benefits was so empowering for me and gave me a great sense of self-worth more than I had ever anticipated.
And what about the future?
Now, five years after launching Mystic Charms, I have been able to change my life around and achieve many of my dreams that were unobtainable before. My attitudes have changed and my goals are different now, anything is within my grasp if I put my mind to it.
There have been some low times when other people would have given up but I have always known this would be the success it is and not one day has passed that I have regretted starting my own business.
The future looks bright for me where once there was no light at the end of the tunnel and it could be for you too.
